GWMWater has invited tenders for the construction of a new pump station at Lake Fyans, a key piece of infrastructure for the East Grampians Rural Water Supply Project.
Earlier this year, the power supply at Lake Fyans pump station was upgraded in preparation for a new pump station. The new pump station will be the first stage of the East Grampians Rural Water Supply project to be constructed.
GWMWater Managing Director, Mark Williams, said the project focused on securing the future of the region by providing a reliable, secure supply of high-quality water year-round. A changing climate and changes in farming practices has made the area increasingly vulnerable from a water supply perspective.
“Lake Fyans will be the main water source for the East Grampians Pipeline, with smaller volumes also being sourced from Mt Cole, which is gravity fed, and Mt William headworks.” he said.
“A new pump station at Lake Fyans will mean we can supply customers in the area with high-quality water from the Grampians, and ensure water security for the future. The pump station will be integrated with the existing pumps that provide water for Stawell, Ararat and Great Western.”
GWMWater is working through final planning approvals to build the next stage of the East Grampians Rural Pipeline network, which includes trunk and distribution mains and additional pump stations. The phased approach will build from the water sources and allows for future connections to the network.
The East Grampians Rural Water Supply Project is jointly funded by the Australian Government through the National Water Grid Fund, Victorian Government and GWMWater.
